Mary Beth co-authored a manuscript in the prestigious journal Science entitled "Disruption of Signaling
by Yersinia Effector YopJ, a Ubiquitin-Like Protein Protease." The article appeared in the
November 24th, 2000 issue of the journal. This paper describes an interesting connection between
a gene important for infection of humans by the bacterium which causes Black Death, or the plague, and
a similar gene important for infection of plants by bacteria. Congratulations go out to Mary Beth and
Macro Giguere, as they welcomed their daughter, Ella, born January 16, 2004!
