Howard K. Kalman is associate professor and graduate program chair, strategic communication, in the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. Howard specializes in instructional design and performance technology. He teaches courses in learning systems, professional applications of technology in organizations, project management, and strategic planning.
Howard's research interests include performance technology, needs assessment, strategic planning, and knowledge management. He has authored or coauthored articles on process mapping, knowledge management, and instructional strategies and contributed to a chapter in the Handbook of Human Performance Technology (2nd ed.). Howard has more than seven years experience designing, developing, and managing technical training programs for Fortune 500 firms. He regularly presents at national conferences including the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) and the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT). He is also a consulting editor for the research section of Educational Technology Research and Development (ETR&D) and Performance Improvement Quarterly (PIQ). Recently, Howard served as the instructional systems track chair for the 2006 ISPI international conference.
Prior to joining Ithaca College, Howard was assistant professor in instructional technology at Wayne State University. Howard received his BSC degree in communications (radio-television) from Ohio University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in instructional systems technology from Indiana University.
