Minor in International Communications

The minor in international communications gives students from a variety of disciplines a broad knowledge of international communication theory and practice.  It also provides knowledge of the global flow of information. Students have opportunities to relate theories and practices of international communication to their own disciplines.  A complete description with a list of courses can be found at http://www.ithaca.edu/rhp/depts/tvr/catalog/#intlcommminor.  For more information, see the coordinator for the minor, Professor Kati Lustyik in Park 344 or klustyik@ithaca.edu.

Welcome to the Department of Television-Radio.

The television-radio major provides students with a well-rounded look at the various communications industries in core courses ranging from writing to the study of the First Amendment and new media. Students then concentrate in audio production, video production, scriptwriting, or international communications. From their very first semester at Ithaca, television-radio students have the opportunity to get real-life, hands-on experiences within their concentration or areas of interest at one of the many student media outlets. Whether they're part of the team at the campus television or radio stations, or writing for the newspaper or magazines, television-radio students gain experience, learn to deal with on-the-job challenges, and build their portfolios.

The road to success in communications is built around the ability to be a critical thinker and an excellent writer with a solid grounding in the liberal arts. Establishing personal networks with media professionals adds to the likelihood of success after graduation. For that reason, many of our students participate in our internship program, which offers a wide range of opportunities. Our students have worked at such diverse placements as the major television networks, Capitol Records, Comedy Central, and NFL Films.

We encourage you to visit Ithaca College in the very near future. Tucked into the Finger Lakes region of New York, it's nonetheless well connected to major cities in the Northeast as well as to national and international communications centers. With a faculty and staff devoted to close, mentoring relationships, Ithaca is committed to student success.
