The Department of Writing has three networked classrooms, which serve as open labs on weekday evenings and weekends. These facilities offer PC and Macintosh computers with laser printing; a scanner is available in Williams 314. All machines access the campus network, email, the library catalog, and the Internet. Reference books are also provided. Student groups working on publication may reserve Williams 314 for production work; document and image design programs are available.
During public lab hours, Writing and Technology Consultants staff these rooms, providing writing guidance as well as assistance in computer use. Students working on academic papers, resumes, and cover letters will find the consultants a useful resource for a variety of writing concerns: focusing a topic, developing and organizing ideas, establishing voice and tone, learning citation and resume format, and editing for mechanics, punctuation, and style.
